From 6pm Friday until 8pm Sunday the Willunga Recreation Park is transformed into a Festival Village that becomes the hive of entertainment that is the Fleurieu Folk Festival.
This year's Festival will present over 75 acts from all over Australia, featuring some of the finest folk and roots performers in the country with a greater emphasis than ever on our young performers. The main concert venue will be the Festival Hall with seating for around 300 and this will be the place to see the major visiting acts. Other concerts will be held in the Village Marquee located in the Festival Village area, the Young Performers Marquee will host the "Fresh Folk" events and there will also be concerts all weekend in the Football Clubrooms. For those who'd like to step onto the stage and "have a go", there will be "blackboard" concerts at various times over the weekend in the Cafe AcousticA marquee. You will also be able to catch some of the performers giving cameo performances at venues in the Town, including the popular Christina's on High Street, the Tango Turtle, Brackenwood Vineyard Cellar Door and The Green Room.
This year's Festival will once again have a big focus on youth and we'll be presenting some of Australia's finest young folk performers, as well as hosting two Young Talent Showcases and the "Fresh Folk" events in the "Young Performers Marquee". There will be a special youth songwriting workshop and the opportunity for youngsters to share their experiences at the career development forum. Of course, there will be lots of children's entertainment as well, with face-painting, Dr Knickerbocker, Punch & Judy and lots more!
It's not all about sitting and listening either - informal sessions will be held all weekend in the "Session Bar" marquee, "Cafe Acoustica" and hotels in the town. There will be family Bush Dances on Saturday and Sunday in the Show Hall adjacent to the Stadium. Other events, including a huge variety of workshops, dance demonstrations and poetry events will be held in the Recreation hall complex. There will also be lots of craft and food stalls, outdoor entertainment and plenty of other action around the Recreation Ground precinct and throughout the town itself.
