National Folk Festival
2009 - Young Performer Nomination
Early in 2008 an agreement was
negotiated with the Artistic Director of the National Folk Festival
for a promising young act at the 2008 Fleurieu Folk Festival to
be awarded a scholarship to attend masterclasses and perform at
youth showcase concerts at the 2009 National Folk Festival in
Canberra. We are pleased to announce that the nomination has been
awarded to Sarah McGuire.
Sarah is a gifted
young (20y.o.) singer/guitarist performing songs primarily from
the American folk tradition but also some contemporary Australian,
e.g Missy Higgins, The Waifs. Influences: Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell,
Tom Paxton, Woody Guthrie and other early American folk singers.
Sarah is naturally talented with an endearing personality and
developing stage persona. It is considered she would benefit greatly
from masterclasses (Songwriting recommended) and the experience
of performing at showcase concert(s) at the National Folk Festival.
She has a bright future with appropriate encouragement, guidance
and fostering. Sarah has also donated performances at promotional
& fundraising events for the Fleurieu Folk Festival, is appreciative
of any opportunities offered and is a positive influence on her
peer age group.
Congratulations
to Sarah on her nomination and we wish her every success in her
musical career!
